I would like to know what recommendations you experienced mommies have for managing time in the NICU. My daughter has been in NICU for about 2 1/2 weeks so far (we are now in our 2nd hospital) and I am staying at the hospital with her overnight. The accommodations are fine...I am just wondering how you managed any time at home while being diligent in your presence in the NICU. We live about 25-30 minutes from the children's hospital and frankly, I just don't want to leave her.
I have been home for a few hours at a time to do things like laundry and shower but feel so guilty for leaving her here. She is in an excellent hospital with more-than-capable folks...and is doing well...but I am having a hard time reconciling what needs to be done there with what I feel compelled to do, as a mommy. I am still on maternity leave...but my husband is working...and it is really limiting our time together, too. This has been very hard for both of us and I feel like I am neglecting our need to process what is going on. How did you handle?
